Rihanna was born February 20, 1988 in St. Michael, Barbados. His childhood is marked by his father’s dependence on drugs and alcohol. Her parents end up divorcing the year of her fourteenth birthday. Passionate about music since a young age, she is spotted in 2003 by the producer Evan Rogers, while she participates in a singing contest. The latter makes him record a model of four songs in New York and Jay-Z, decides to make him sign a contract with Def Jam, the label he directs at the time.

In August 2005, the singer released her first album, Music of the Sun, a mix of reggae, R & B with a touch of pop. It’s a success: the album sells more than two million copies in the United States where it is certified platinum, as in Canada. Her first single, Pon de Replay, reached 2nd place in the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna, to become known, ensures at the time the first part of concerts Gwen Stefani. The album itself runs to 3.5 million copies. Rihanna surfs on the wave of her success and starts a tour in the United States with the Black Eyes Peas and in Europe with the Pussycat Dolls.

On the occasion of the release of the album Good Girl Gone Bad in June 2007, the stage outfits of the singer are more and more provocative. The album meets again a huge success around the world. With eight million copies sold, it is the second best selling album in 2008 in the United States and remains seven consecutive weeks No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100. A year later, the singer out a reissue of Good Girl Gone Bad (Reloaded) with three unpublished ones including Disturbia, co-written by his ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. The title is heard around the world. During her world tour, the Good Girl Gone Bad Tour, Rihanna further accentuates her dark side. On January 27, 2009, she released a full album of remixes from the album, Good Girl Gone Bad, The Remixes.

After dark episodes in the life of the singer with her boyfriend at the time Chris Brown, caught striking her face in February 2009 as they both went to a Grammy Awards ceremony, the world of singer becomes harder, darker, but also more mature. In early 2011, Rihanna markets its first perfume, Reb’l Fleur. The same year, she poses in the American edition of Vogue magazine, and becomes the third black woman in history to make the cover (after Naomi Campbell and Halle Berry). Finally, on November 21, 2011, Rihanna releases her sixth album, Talk Talk Talk. The result of several collaborations with Calvin Harris (the producer who worked for Kylie Minogue) and Jay-Z, his tone is a summary of his last two albums. Rihanna becomes the artist with the highest number of singles ranked first in the Billboard Hot 100. She is also the one who took the least time to win eleven titles number one in Billboard Hot 100, and therefore detracts Mariah Carey. On May 8, 2011, the singer releases Where have you Been and sets a new record, with 4.7 million views in 24 hours.

In July 2017, Rihanna will star in Luc Besson’s latest feature film, Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets, alongside Cara Delevingne.

On the private side, Rihanna went to rapper Chris Brown in 2008. But after a heated argument in February 2009 (the rapper was sentenced to 180 days of community service for assault and battery), the couple separated. The singer has since been very discreet about her private life. In August 2016, during the MTV Video Music Awards, the rapper Drake declares his flame on stage and kisses him.
